"We make understanding computers easy and fun"

The History of LCCUG

-In the Beginning-

After a decade of making computers available to the public, the Lorain Public Library took another role in advancing computer knowledge among its patrons.

On the 28th of June 1990, 15 people met and formed a small group of computer users. Following that first meeting, officers were elected, by-laws were drafted and the first club newsletter was published.

The Lorain County Computer Users Group (LCCUG) was formed to provide a means of sharing information among computer users in the area. The Lorain Public Library saw a need for a computer user's group that coul benefit both community members interested in computers, as well as the Library and general public.

By developing this group, the information sharing role of the Lorain County Computer Users Group would allow the Library to direct patrons wanting computer advice to a local, more expert information source when library resources could not fill the patron's needs.

While the Library is no longer directly connected with the group, they continue to have a supportive relationship by providing rooms for classes and by directing interested patrons to this established local computer organization

- Recent Developments -

In the last few years, LCCUG, in cooperation with the Vermillion Family YMCA, the Lorain Senior Center, and the LCCC Learning Center at St. Joseph's Community Center has started providing additional classes for not only our members but also other computer users in the community. We also strive to provide the most interesting, up-to-date, and informative meeting topic presentations for our members during our bi-monthly membership meetings.

With continued growth, LCCUG outgrew the facilities at the Library for our large monthly meetings. We were very fortunate to aquire the use of Gould Auditorium at St. Joseph's Community Center in Lorain for our meetings. Major presentations and our business meetings are held there twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

LCCUG continues to grow and expand as we are always seeking new and challenging ways to make...

"using and understanding computers easy and fun!"

Thank You,
The Staff of LCCUG
